EWP Perspectives with Mobility-Online

How Mobility-Online Keeps Institutions Ready.

Erasmus Without Paper continues to evolve. New interfaces, changing specifications and future transition arrangements affect both mobility management systems and the daily work of higher education institutions.

Mobility-Online supports customers through this development—not only by integrating EWP functionality into its Erasmus workflows, but also through direct communication, free Academy sessions and resources in the Mobility-Online Support Centre.

Over the past year, this has included early information about the EWP Nomination Interface, connected Academy sessions on its fundamentals and configuration, and further updates following its release. The Academy programme has also addressed Inter-Institutional Agreements, Digital Learning Agreements, the Beneficiary Module and other areas in which European requirements meet the practical work of International Offices.

First-hand perspectives from the European Commission

A special highlight was the Mobility-Online Academy session “EWP Updates: EC News, Nominations and ToRs” in July 2026.

The session brought together the Mobility-Online team with Alexandra Licht and Camille Maillet, Policy Officers at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC), and Ildiko Hegedus, Programme Manager at the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

Their contribution gave the Mobility-Online community direct insight into the wider European direction of Erasmus digitalisation. The presentation covered the transition from the European Student Card Initiative to ESCI+, the results of the ESCI+ stakeholder consultation, the proposed future governance structure and the timeline leading towards the next generation of the Erasmus programme.

Particular attention was given to the transition period and what it will mean for institutions. The presentation outlined a phased approach intended to ensure continuity while new structures and templates are introduced. Data portability, interoperability between EWP-compliant systems and the continued operation of essential mobility processes were among the priorities presented.

For institutions managing extensive agreement portfolios, one message was especially relevant:

“No mass renewal required at the start of the new Erasmus+ programme.”

The presentation further explained:

“Existing IIAs remain valid throughout the transition period, ensuring continuity while institutions progressively migrate to ESCI+.”

These statements referred to existing Inter-Institutional Agreements based on the 2021–2027 template and the planned transition period in 2028–2029. Rather than requiring all agreements to be renewed immediately, the approach presented allows institutions to move progressively towards the new programme template.

The European outlook was complemented by practical updates from the Mobility-Online team. These included the CONNECT/EWP Home tab, the Nomination Interface and planned enhancements, as well as the roadmap for the Transcript of Records Interface.

By bringing these perspectives together, the session connected European plans with the concrete questions institutions face in their daily work: what is changing, when preparation is required and how new EWP processes will be reflected in Mobility-Online.

Available beyond the live session

Free Mobility-Online Academy sessions regularly attract more than 300 participants, with attendance sometimes reaching around 400. Since not everyone can attend live, the sessions are recorded and made available to all Mobility-Online users in the Support Centre.

The recording and presentations from the July session are also available there, allowing users to revisit the information and share it with colleagues involved in Erasmus Without Paper.

Keeping knowledge connected to practice

Following the summer break, the Mobility-Online Academy continued in September with the free session “Beneficiary Module: Exporting Data with Mobility-Online.”

Whether the subject is EWP Nominations, future transition arrangements or data exports for European programme administration, the objective remains the same: to connect new requirements with the practical processes institutions manage every day.

Through integrated functionality, direct customer communication, expert contributions and accessible resources, Mobility-Online helps institutions understand EWP developments and prepare confidently for what comes next.
